One New Man Art Painting: Abraham's Encounter

Abraham's Encounter

Scripture: “Remember Abraham Isaac and Israel, your servants to whom you swore by your own self, and said to them “ I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven; and all this land that I have spoken of I give to your descendants, and they shall inherit it forever.” (Exodus 32:13)

“No longer will your name be Abram, but your name will be Abraham, because I make you the father of a multitude of nations.” (Genesis 17:5)

“God appeared to Abraham at the Oaks of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance of his tent. It was the hottest part of the day. He looked up and saw three men standing. He ran from his tent to greet them and bowed before them.”  (Genesis 18:1-2)

As Israel’s foundational root, Abraham, is represented in this painting as the Olive Tree, receiving God’s promise to make his seed as countless as the stars.

The landscape is depicted as hot and void of any vegetation, representing the world without faith in it.  Abraham's well is positioned next to the rich green olive tree to remind us that through Abraham’s faith all humanity can drink from the wells of salvation.

The Green Olive Tree stands in stark contrast to the surrounding barren landscape, representing the ‘alive faith’ of Abraham.  Under the expansive starry skies Abraham encounters God in a divine exchange with the creator of the universe, nothing in heaven and earth is ever the same again!

The three small tents in the background represent Abraham, Isaac and Jacob,  the three foundational roots for all God's children under the continuous, covering of His eternal promise to Abraham that all the families of the Earth will be blessed.
