One New Man Art Painting: Angels Ladder

Angels Ladder

Scriptures: “Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.” (Genesis 28:12)

“Then he had another dream, and he told it to his brothers. Listen, he said, “I had another dream.” (Genesis 37:9)

“To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning. And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds.” (Daniel 1:17)

“Praise the Lord, you Angels, you mighty ones who carry out His word, listening for each of His commands.” (Psalm 103:20)

“Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying.” (Luke 2:13)

“Then God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know you did this with a clear conscience, and so I have kept you from sinning against me.” (Genesis 20:6)

“Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation.” (Hebrews 1:14)

“After these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened by his glory.” (Revelation 18:1)

“The Lord has established His Throne in heaven, and His Kingdom rules over all.  Bless the Lord, you angels, who excel in strength, who do His Word, heeding the voice of His Word.” (Psalm 103:19-20)

Prophetic dreams, words, visions, even paintings are a gift from God to help us to understand and connect with His spiritual reality. In this particular painting of Jabob’s dream, God uses a dream to confirm to Jacob that the Covenant Promises He made to the two previous generations, Abraham and Isaac, still stand and are being confirmed directly to him, through this dream/ visitation.

This scene is painted as a semi abstract. The shades of different blues merge, from the background into the foreground, representing the merging between the physical and the spiritual, the earthly and heavenly.  Angelic hosts, painted as gold and white wing shapes, ascend and descend up and down a white ladder that stretches from heaven down to earth, as described in Jacobs dream.

This Divine encounter in Jacob’s life, merges the spiritual reality of angels with a common human experience such as ‘dreaming’. It gives us a snapshot into the heavenly realm, opening a window of possibility, to all future generations, that God may choose to speak to us in this manner. That He is actively engaged and willing to expose His heavenly realm even sending His angelic messengers to engage and communicate with us.

A golden yellow (glory) stream splits through blues (heavens) and greens (earth), spilling out towards the foreground of the painting like a golden river of glory from heaven as angels on heavenly assignments touch down and engage with humanity on earth.
