One New Man Art Painting: In The Beginning

In The Beginning

Scripture: “This is the history of the heavens and the earth when they were created, on that day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens.” (Genesis 2:4)

“All things were made by Him; and without Him was not anything made that was made.” (John 1:3)

“When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place.” (Psalm 8:3)

“Who is this that appears like the dawn, fair as the moon, bright as the sun, majestic as the stars in procession” (Song of Songs 6:10)

“He drew a circular horizon on the face of the waters, At the boundary of light and darkness.” (Job 26:10)

My original sketches for this painting were very different from the final outcome.  I had consciously tried focusing, not so much on the subject but more on the actual physical expressions of painting.

I began painting with broad sweeping brush strokes of various shades of blue across the blank canvas.  Working quickly to keep alive a sense of spontaneous energy,  shapes began to form.  Allowing myself to ‘flow in the moment’ these shapes developed into great wings representing the presence of the Holy Spirit’s work of creation.

I had wanted to convey a sense of the ‘Spirit of God hovering over the waters in the creation process. The separating out of the waters above, the heavens, from the waters below, the earth.
