Planting The Seed

Planting the seed

Scriptures: “You will bring them in and plant them in the mountain of Your inheritance, in the place O Lord which You have made Your own dwelling. The sanctuary O Lord which Your hands have established.” (Exodus 15:17)

“With Your hand You drove out the nations and planted our ancestors; you crushed the peoples and made our ancestors flourish.” (Psalm 44:2)

“You transplanted a vine from Egypt; You drove out the nations and planted  it.” (Psalm 80:8)

“The root Your right hand has planted, the son You have raised up for Yourself.” (Psalm 80:15)

“Then all Your people will be righteous and they will possess the land forever. They are the shoot I have planted, the work of My hands, for the display of My splendor.” (Isaiah 60:21)

“They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” (Jeremiah 17:8)

“He took one of the seedlings of the land and put it in fertile soil. He planted it like a willow by abundant water.” (Ezekiel 17:5)

Having chosen a place in all the Earth to call His own, our Father God plants a seed into His Land.  This painting is intended to reveal God, not only as the awesome God of all Creation, but is also a deeply personal being committed and caring over all He has made.

I chose to paint a human hand sewing a seed to convey God's close identification with humanity, and the earth, which He created for all to receive from its bounty.

Notice the hand is delicately poised to demonstrate His infinitely tender and loving nature as He stoops down into His Creation and plants His seed.  This seed, represents The Jewish People, as The Olive Tree planted by God and destined to be His touchpoint with humanity for all time.
