One New Man Art Painting: The Proud Old olive tree

Proud Olive Tree

Scriptures: “And your fame spread among the nations on account of your beauty, because the splendour I had given you made your beauty perfect, declares the Sovereign Lord.” (Ezekiel 16:14)

“Then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.” (Deuteronomy 8:14)

“When I fed them, they were satisfied; when they were satisfied, they became proud; then they forgot me.” (Hosea 13:6)

“The Lord Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and lofty, for all that is exalted will be humbled.” (Isaiah 2:12)

“People shall be brought down. Each man shall be humbled, and the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled.” (Isaiah 5:15)

The overall triangle shape of this tree with its heavy base taking your eye up to a narrow point at the top, attempts to create a sense of the haughtiness and pride that captures the heart, not only of individuals but can even capture the hearts of entire nations.

The twisting dark shapes of the tree are intended to express the deceptions and distortions that pride so easily brings.  The weight, especially of religious pride entrenched over many generations, can and will bring with it ever increasing darkness.

The darkness like an invisible veil leads not only to a fruitless drying up of what once was so abundant and overflowing with life, to ultimately the loss of all things including an uprooting and finally lifelessness as in death.

These things have happened as a warning to all, both as individuals and as  nations who swallow the poisonous fruit of pride generation after generation.
